The Sussex Spaniel

The Sussex Spaniel originated in Sussex,England, where it was used as a field dog.  Sussex Spaniels became popular hunting dogs.  They are friendly and cheerful dogs.  They love walks with their families.  They require weekly brushing and need special attention so that stuff does not get into their long hair.  If you buy this dog you should know that it drools alot.  They have not really changed from how they used to be in the 1800′s.  They are also not the most popular breed with numbers.  They are long, low, and rectangular.  They are very somber and serious dogs.  They are usually 13 to 15 inches tall.  They weigh from 35 to 45 pounds.  They are muscular and rather massive.  The eyes are usually a good hazel color.  The ears are thick and fairly large.  They have a short, strong and slightly arched neck.  Their hindquarters are well rounded, strong, and heavily boned.  The body coat is abundant.  Rich golden liver is the only color accepted by many clubs.  It has short legs and a long body.

The Alaskan Malamute

No it is not a Siberian Husky! This is the Alaskan Malamute. It is one of the oldest known sled dogs today. It is a substantially built dog with a deep chest and a strong muscled body. The head is broad and the ears are triangular but erect when alert. The muzzle is not pointed or long, yet not stubby. The coat is thick. The face markings are a very distinguishing feature. The tail is well furred. It must be a heavy well boned dog. He is not intended to be a fast racing dog. They are known for their endurance. The males should be about 85 pounds and females should be about 75 pounds. The head is broad and deep, but not clumsy. The skull is also moderately rounded at the ears. The neck is strong and moderately arched. The shoulders should moderately slope and the rear legs are heavily muscled through the thighs. The coat is thick but never long or soft. The Alaskan Malamute is a good tempered dog. He is also a very loyal dog. The only big disqualification that most clubs will not accept is blue eyes. Thank you for reading my post!

Poodle

Oh, the clip of the year.  The poodle is a groomers dream!  A Standard Poodle should be over 15 inches at the highest point of its shoulder.  A Miniature Poodle should be 15 inches or lower at the highest point of its shoulders.  And the Toy Poodle is 10 inches or lower at the highest point of its shoulders.  To insure a good squarely built appearance the measurement from the breastbone to the rump approximates the height from the highest point of the shoulders to the ground.  The eyes are very dark.  The ears should hang close to the head.  The skull should be moderately rounded, with a slight but definite stop.  The muzzle should be long, straight, and fine.  The neck should be well proportioned and also long and strong.  The topline should be level.  A puppy can have the puppy clip when it is 12 months or younger.  When the poodle is 13 months old it should have the English or Continental clip.  The Poodle should be strong and athletic.  Thank you for reading my post!

German Shepherd

German Shepherd, todays protection dog. The German Shepherd is a large dog. These dogs are usually darker colored or white. Most clubs will not accept dogs that are white. Every dog gives a definite impression of its sex. These dogs are mostly known as police dogs, seeing eye dogs, and herding dogs . These dogs cannot be timid for most clubs. The shoulder blades are long obliquely angled. Pale or washed out colors are serious faults. The dewclaws if ,any should be removed. The muzzle is long and strong. The neck is also strong and muscular.

Labrador Retriever

What a cute dog! If you would like one of these beautiful dogs please read on! Labrador Retrievers seasonally. These dogs were crossed with Setters, Spaniels , and other Retrievers. They were born to be hunters, but they are also very affectionate and kind. These dogs are very easy to train. These dogs are also used as seeing eye dogs. This dog is strongly built and is usually medium sized. A Labrador should have a short and hard coat. Most clubs will not accept Labradors if they have a thourogly pink nose or eye rims without pigment. Thank you for reading my post!

Pomeranian

Ah the lap dog of the century. This dog is cute beyond belief. So when we think and ask our selves what kind of dog we want we may ask the following questions I have kids is it a kid friendly dog? Does is shed much fur? Is it high maintenance? Is it a smart dog? Do I want a lap dog or running like crazy dog?

Let’s start with question one is it kid friendly? Well it all depends on the dog, some are and some are not. But it also depends on your breeder and how its parents acted. Question two. does it shed? The dog shed’s its bottom coat once or twice a year. The dog sheds a lot but not excessively and sometimes it depends on the dog’s type. Question three.Is it high maintenance? It’s not high maintenance like a little baby. You have to brush it’s fur either every day or every other just to keep its coat cleaned, and you should also clean the eyes and ears daily with a cotton ball or damp cloth. Question four. Is it smart? The Pomeranian is a smart dog and is eager to learn. Of course you have to potty train it. To teach it tricks go to you local pet store and buy a clicker. Question five. Can I have a Pomeranian if I have a small home? If you have kids but a small home or stuff that is expensive or valuable but you still love to have fun with your pup then you should get a Pomeranian. If you have a big house and kids and still want a pup you can still get a Pomeranian. But if you want a big pet then the Pomeranian is not for you.

Dachshund

Today I will be talking about short-haired Dachshunds.  There main purpose is a hunting dog, but they can also be companion dogs.  Their temperament is average.  If you get a Dachshund you need to exercise with it every day.  If you are handicapped or have a hard time moving around I would not recommend a Dachshund, because they will tend to get lazy and overweight.  Their health risks can be diabetes, obesity, urinary tract problems ,and heart problems.  If you don’t exercise with them they will have pains in the back.  They are OK with children so if you have a child I would probably recommend something else.  They live for about 12-15 years.

Today I will be talking about American Cocker Spaniels. Cocker Spaniels were mainly for hunting birds. Today people still use them for that purpose but now mostly as companion or lap dogs. They have webbed feet so that already tells you that they are probably good swimmers. At birth Cocker Spaniels will be pretty small. But as an adult they will be medium sized. You should get a Cocker Spaniel if you will keep up with grooming and activities. If you are handicapped or have a hard time moving around i would not recommend a Cocker Spaniel.
